The Babylon Bee v. Bonta

On March 18, 2026, WLF urged the Ninth Circuit to affirm a lower court decision that a California law regulating AI-edited political speech was precluded by section 230. WLF’s brief explained that section 230 protects online publishers from liability for hosting political speech and that even if that immunity didn’t apply, traditional First Amendment principles would compel the same outcome. WLF was joined on the brief by the Manhattan Institute and Americans for Prosperity Foundation.
