About the program: On October 7, the Court’s eight justices (along with anyone who wishes to tune in to the live audio stream) will hear oral arguments in a critical copyright case 10 years in the making. Our speakers, who participated in opposing amicus briefs in the case, will boil down this complex case to its core issues and offer thoughts on what the justices will be asking of Google and Oracle’s counsel.

Speakers' Biographies

James Daily

James Daily is the Head of Legal Data Science at Skopos Labs and a Lecturer in Law at the Center for Empirical Research in the Law at Washington University in St. Louis, where he administers the Supreme Court Database. He holds degrees in computer science and law. His research and teaching focus on intellectual property, empirical legal research, and legal technology. Mr. Daily, along with Empirical SCOTUS's Adam Feldman, filed an "amicus" brief in support of Google in Google LLC v. Oracle America, Inc.

Professor Adam Mossoff

Professor Mossoff is an IP expert and law professor at George Mason University. His scholarship has been relied on by the Supreme Court and he has testified many times before Congress about IP legislation. He is a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and is affiliated with many other academic centers, policy organizations and think tanks. He has written on Oracle v. Google (https://fedsoc.org/commentary/fedsoc-blog/in-oracle-v-google-the-supreme-court-should-protect-copyright-in-the-tech-industry) and was of nine professors who filed an "amicus" brief supporting Oracle in the case.
