He has successfully briefed several cases in the United States Supreme Court and has argued cases in multiple federal district courts and U.S. Courts of Appeals. He served as a law clerk for Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Thomas B. Griffith of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and a law clerk to Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court.
