In re: Dissemination of Comparative Effectiveness Research to Patients and Providers to Increase Adoption
- Case Date: 4/26/2011
- Project Name: Health Care Project
On April 25, 2011, WLF urged the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to clarify the standards that will govern federally funded “academic detailers” who provide pharmaceutical and other treatment information to health care providers. In formal comments filed with the HHS, WLF expressed a longstanding interest in the work of the HHS and the FDA, especially as it pertains to ensuring that physicians are being presented with information that is truthful, unbiased, and aligned with existing scientific evidence. But, in the absence of any clearly designed parameters and oversight responsibilities that will govern academic detailers funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), WLF explained that the public cannot be confident that providers are receiving unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date information.
|Awaiting HHS action.|
