On April 25, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review an important case brought by American servicemen seeking damages against Iraq under a 1996 antiterrorism law for being tortured as POWs by Saddam Hussein during the 1991 Gulf War. WLF had filed a brief in the case on behalf of United States Senator George Allen and a bipartisan group of 19 other Senators and Representatives seeking review and reversal of a court of appeals’ decision which dismissed the case and revoked the trial court’s judgment in favor of the ex-POWs. Attorneys for Colonel Acree and the other ex-POWs have vowed to pursue all other legal options in this case, including congressional support. WLF will continue to support these POWs on behalf of Members of Congress to ensure that justice is carried out.
