In re Commercial Activity by Postal Service
- Case Date: 1/30/2003
- Project Name: Criminalization of Free Enterprise - Business Civil Liberties Program
On January 30, 2003, WLF filed formal comments with the Postal Rate Commission, urging the commission to investigate whether the Postal Service is violating its statutory authority by engaging in a wide variety of commercial activity unrelated to mail delivery. WLF argued that because many of these activities are being operated at a loss, the Postal Service is unfairly competing with private companies that offer the same services. The services offered include such services as processing passport photos, selling phone cards, and selling novelty items such as T-shirts and neckties.
