Case Detail

Center for National Security Studies v. Department of Justice
On June 7, 2003, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit overturned a lower court order requiring the federal government to disclose the names of all those detained in connection with its post-September 11 anti-terrorism investigation. The decision was a victory for WLF, which had filed two briefs with the court, arguing that such disclosure could well interfere with the investigation by providing valuable information to al Qaeda and by making detainees less likely to cooperate with the government.
Case Status:
Victory. Petition for Supreme Court review denied January 12, 2004.
